What is ShareOpenly?

ShareOpenly is a free, universal sharing gateway. It lets you share links and text to any social network — including platforms across the open social web — from a single share button. No account or sign-up is needed.

The problem

Sharing to social media used to be simple: there were a handful of platforms, and each one had a share button you could add to your site. Today, there are thousands of social platforms — particularly across the open social web, where every Mastodon, Bluesky, or Firefish server is its own destination. You can't add a share button for each one.

How it works

When someone clicks a ShareOpenly share button, they choose where they want to share. ShareOpenly has built-in support for major platforms.

For open social web platforms, users can enter their server's domain name. ShareOpenly automatically discovers how to share to that server using a new rel="share-url" standard, and also detects common platform types including Mastodon, Bluesky, Firefish, Known, and Micro.blog.

Add it to your site

Adding a ShareOpenly share button to your website takes one line of HTML. See the integration guide for details, or try sharing something from the homepage.

Built on open standards

ShareOpenly uses the rel="share-url" microformat to discover sharing endpoints. Any platform can support ShareOpenly by adding a single <link> tag to their homepage. This means new platforms work automatically — no central directory or manual integration required.
